New Orleans East residents explain their vote for mayor.
Community Gumbo | WTUL New Orleans 91.5 FM
Despite concerns about vital issues like levee integrity, schools, crime, and rebuilding their homes, New Orleans East residents found it difficult to find differences in the platforms of incumbent mayor Ray Nagin, and his challenger, Lt. Gov. Mitch Landrieu. Nonetheless, Red Shoe New Orleans was there to make sure the voice of the voters was captured, articulated, and communicated to the mayor of New Orleans.

Local Group to Host Empowerment Rally
Red Shoe New Orleans, an upstart organization connecting local residents to recovery resources, has announced it's intentions to host the "People's Empowerment Rally". The rally is will be held August 26, 2006, the last Saturday in the month to correspond with the anniversary of Hurricane Katrina. The rally will connect residents with state and local resources, such as job placement, GED enrollment, postsecondary opportunities, and mental and physical wellness programs. In addition, Les Brown Enterprise has committed to providing a keynote speaker, which includes world-renowned speaker, author, and entrepreneur Les Brown.
Citizens Cast Their Votes, Then Cast Their Voices
When the majority of New Orleans east voters showed up at the Chef Mentur voting poll location on May 20, 2006, many of them were surprised to be given the opportunity to not only to cast their vote, but to also cast their voice. A new grassroots initiative, Red Shoe New Orleans ? a campaign whose key message is" there's no place like?" ? took their postcard campaign to another level when they decided to serve as a conduit of concerns between the citizens of New Orleans and elected officials.
POSTCARDLouisiana launches its There's No Place Like? campaign.
There is no place like your neighborhood, school, church, or home. POSTCARDLouisiana was created to give people a simple way to share their story and be comforted, since the people have the power to sustain and be sustained by each other. POSTCARDLouisiana achieves this goal by partnering with local artists to capture post-Katrina New Orleans, dignified and still standing, then creating and selling their work on postcards.
Red Shoe New Orleans reaches its 1,000th postcard milestone.
On May 23, 2006, Red Shoe New Orleans sold their 1,000thpostcard to John Edwards, a resident of New Orleans' Algiers area. "Any movement for the people must start with the people," said Royce Duplessis, Red Shoe New Orleans' co-founder. "In selling our 1,000thpostcard, we have 1,000 people sharing the same message of there is truly no place like your home, job, or city. This project is sustaining the people and keeping New Orleans on the minds and hearts of the nation."
